-Choose long segments -Possibly by a bifurcation -Avoid flexor regions -Room for hub -Easy to keep clean

-Keep insertion site below level of the heart -Then apply tourniquet -It should be tight -See tips in image

-Prep with alcohol -Anchor below the vein with medium pressure -Mostly flat insertion angle -Start around the red dot in this example

-Once the NEEDLE tip enters the vein, you'll get a flash of blood -Flatten slightly if needed -Advance everything slightly to get the CATHETER tip into the vein -Advance the CATHETER, holding the needle stationary

-Remove the tourniquet -Push a finger over the vein, above the catheter tip to occlude the vein -Remove your needle, apply clave/tubing to the hub. -Tape the IV
